Hurricane Recon โ€” Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 September 2026

Hurricane Recon does not have user accounts, does not use analytics or advertising software, and does not sell or share personal information. The app talks to public weather services and to one server run by the developer. Nothing it sends can identify you by name.

What the app handles

DataWhyWhere it goes
Approximate location Centres the map on you and requests a local NWS forecast Stays on the device, except as coordinates in a forecast request to NOAA/NWS. Not stored, not logged by us. Optional โ€” deny it and the app works, centred on the basin instead.
Push notification token Delivers Plan of the Day and storm alerts Apple, and our notification server. It identifies an app install, not a person, and is deleted when notifications are turned off or the app is removed.
Subscription status Unlocks Premium features Handled entirely by Apple. We never receive your name, payment details or Apple Account.
Settings and cached data Remembers your layers; keeps imagery usable offline Device only.

What we do not do

Services the app contacts

Requests go to the National Hurricane Center, the National Weather Service, NOAA satellite and reconnaissance services, the Iowa State Mesonet, adsb.lol for aircraft positions, FlightAware AeroAPI for manual flight searches, and hurricanerecon.com, which serves imagery and processed data. Those services receive the request and your IP address, as any web request does, and each is governed by its own privacy policy.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date above changes with it and the updated policy is published here before the change takes effect in a released build.
